SHRI K.K.SCHOOL & HOME FOR THE BLIND TRUST

About National Association for the Blind (NAB)

The National Association for the Blind (NAB) was established in 1952 in Mumbai at the instance of Shri Rustamji Alpaiwala. This was followed by the formation of state-level NAB branches in 1965. The Bhavnagar branch of NAB was established in 1984. Since 1989, NAB Bhavnagar has been managed by the office-bearers of Shri K. K. School & Home for the Blind.

NAB undertakes activities for the blind and people with other disabilities, including prevention, diagnosis, treatment, education, and vocational training aimed at rehabilitation into the mainstream. Activities include distribution of Vitamin A, organizing treatment camps, cataract surgeries, and distribution of spectacles.

With the joint efforts of NAB Bhavnagar District Branch and Shri Krishnakumarsinhji School and Home for The Blind, Bhavnagar, a group called Samvedna Society was initiated in 2019 to engage students, teachers, and principals from schools and colleges in serving the disabled community. Over 1300 Samvedna Societies have already been formed, with the goal of establishing such a society in every educational institution in the district.

These societies conduct campaigns to support disabled individuals in surrounding areas, helping them access necessary services and government schemes. They aim to promote equality, inclusivity, and positive societal behavior towards the disabled, becoming an exemplary model for the entire nation. Each society comprises 7 students, 2 teachers or professors, and 1 principal. As members graduate, new students join, ensuring a continuous chain of service. Students from charter schools and colleges benefit directly, and rehabilitation services reach even uneducated disabled individuals in remote rural areas.
