History

When Maharaja Shri Krushnkumarsinhji went to visit the Victoria memorial School for the blind-Mumbai in 1928, he came in contact with the blind pupil named Natu Dolat Oza of Umrala Village of Bhavnagar State. The Maharaja said to him- ‘Why are you here in Mumbai?’ Natu respectfully replied the Maharaja that there wasn`t any school for the blind at Bhavnagar or in any nearby state. The Maharaja was impressed by the innocent reply of Natu and awarded him for gaining first number in nylon knitting work of the chair. Not only have that at the moment he decided to establish the blind school at Bhavnagar. He formed a committee to set up the scheme and decided to allot the grant from Bhavnagar state. The school was established on 6th January, 1932. Today in this institute the education from Balvatika to 12th is provided with lodging and boarding facility at free of cost. In addition to this vocational courses like Computer courses, Music education from Prarambhik to Visharad, Home science for the girls are conducted by the institute. In such courses about 150 students are beneficiaries per year.
